You guys have missed the point. Blogging is not about expounding your perspectives and opinions, it is about people in your community shareing there perspectives. My blog site www.athomeincentennial.com is all about the community and allowing people to blog about things that matter to them. And, I rarely write anything myself.

You can have a site like this yourself. To learn more go to www.blogofthetown.com and go into the subscription page. You will be blown away. This is the new age of internet real estate marketing.

While blogging for the sake of blogging seems worthless and time consuming, it helps inarguably with one thing: SEO. If you spend a decent enough time on your blog, you're likely to get some of your articles (if they are intriguing enough) picked up and syndicated, which may bring worthless traffic to your blog, but it will certainly bring links and more links.
We're not full steam ahead yet on this blog thing, but I feel it is a necessity in terms of competitive advantage in my market. It distinguishes me from my peers and tells my customers that I know what I'm talking about.

Joel, I linked to you because I wanted some of my customers see it.

I agree with you and Galen completely.

Not every Agent should not blog because not everyone is looking for that market.

The Realtor blog phenom will grow know we need to educate them on not becoming splogs.

Finally seeing someone else bringing up that you have to like writing to blog well. It's the big "well duh" of the whole thou shalt blog arguement.

I hear ya Galen.

Blogging just for the sake of blogging defeats the point.

My sense from this is that the mainstream tech newsies are a little behind on this story and they may be getting a little over excited as such. The real estate blogging phenomenon is nothing new.

I've always maintained that blogging is an incredible personal marketing tool, but you should only blog if you like writing. I definitely think you have to be a good writer to be a good blogger.

But I also agree that you don't have to be a good blogger to be a good agent.

David Krug is wrong. So is Scoble. The 'everyone needs a blog' argument is a personal pet-peeve of mine. Some agents should blog - those who enjoy writing and have something to say - and some agents will find great success with it. Many (most?) agents who try blogging will not get an adequate audience to make it worthwhile and would find much more success spending their time marketing themselves in other ways. The blogging world is not 'full' yet, but if every agent has a blog, most of them really won't get any results from their efforts and they will find themselves frustrated.

There is a mistaken belief amongst real estate bloggers that you have to be a great writer to be a great agent.

<!--%kramer-pre%-->survey done by Blogging Systems, a leading real estate blogging service 68% of real estate agents said they would be focusing on blogs as a marketing tool in 2007!" This just goes to show what a powerful medium that blogging is. Robert Scoble and Joel Buslem (Future of Real Estate Marketing) have also picked up on this. So, do you plan on starting a blog this year? <!--%kramer-post%-->
