The Time to Blog is Now
David Krug from 901am.com recommends all real estate agents should start blogging.
Remember when real estate agents hired high schoolers to flyer homes? This was the old days. Now the tables and technology has grown and real estate agents understand the need to market online now more than ever. This is a unique situation for blogging companies and real estate agents.
Looking for some more inspiration? If you’re blogging already or thinking about starting a real estate blog, make sure you mark your calendars for July 31 - August 1 to attend the BLOGGERS CONNECT conference at Real Estate Connect in San Francisco.
Update: Scoble chimes in as well.

David Krug is wrong. So is Scoble. The ‘everyone needs a blog’ argument is a personal pet-peeve of mine. Some agents should blog - those who enjoy writing and have something to say - and some agents will find great success with it. Many (most?) agents who try blogging will not get an adequate audience to make it worthwhile and would find much more success spending their time marketing themselves in other ways. The blogging world is not ‘full’ yet, but if every agent has a blog, most of them really won’t get any results from their efforts and they will find themselves frustrated.
There is a mistaken belief amongst real estate bloggers that you have to be a great writer to be a great agent.

I hear ya Galen.
Blogging just for the sake of blogging defeats the point.
My sense from this is that the mainstream tech newsies are a little behind on this story and they may be getting a little over excited as such. The real estate blogging phenomenon is nothing new.
I’ve always maintained that blogging is an incredible personal marketing tool, but you should only blog if you like writing. I definitely think you have to be a good writer to be a good blogger.
But I also agree that you don’t have to be a good blogger to be a good agent.

Finally seeing someone else bringing up that you have to like writing to blog well. It’s the big “well duh” of the whole thou shalt blog arguement.

Joel, I linked to you because I wanted some of my customers see it.
I agree with you and Galen completely.
Not every Agent should not blog because not everyone is looking for that market.
The Realtor blog phenom will grow know we need to educate them on not becoming splogs.

While blogging for the sake of blogging seems worthless and time consuming, it helps inarguably with one thing: SEO. If you spend a decent enough time on your blog, you’re likely to get some of your articles (if they are intriguing enough) picked up and syndicated, which may bring worthless traffic to your blog, but it will certainly bring links and more links.
We’re not full steam ahead yet on this blog thing, but I feel it is a necessity in terms of competitive advantage in my market. It distinguishes me from my peers and tells my customers that I know what I’m talking about.

You guys have missed the point. Blogging is not about expounding your perspectives and opinions, it is about people in your community shareing there perspectives. My blog site http://www.athomeincentennial.com is all about the community and allowing people to blog about things that matter to them. And, I rarely write anything myself.
You can have a site like this yourself. To learn more go to http://www.blogofthetown.com and go into the subscription page. You will be blown away. This is the new age of internet real estate marketing.
