Stroking Your RSS Ego

From Matt Cutts, Tips on your Google Reader subscriber numbers.

To find out how many Google Reader subscribers you have:

  1. Click on ‘Add subscription’ button.
  2. Enter search terms that relate to your feed, e.g. Real Estate Marketing.
  3. Discover!

This is an interesting tool to research how other blogs are doing too. But remember, this only details readers that have subscribed to a feed using Google Reader and is not a total count.

Plus, Mashable calls BS on Google Reader Stats.

Also interesting is that Robert Scoble noted that to get an idea of your real traffic numbers, multiply that number by 20 (there’s no way that’s accurate based on my numbers …)

Interesting tool but I guess the question that comes to mind is what percentage of the RSS market does google have? Are there not 100’s of feed subscription sites?
