RealEstateVoices Offers Social Real Estate News
Further to my post several weeks ago, Where Do You Get Your Real Estate News?, I was contacted by Niki Scevak, founder of Homethinking.com about a new project he was undertaking.

RealEstateVoices is a social real estate news website that officially launched today. It’s a Digg-like site based on the open source project Pligg, that replicates much of the popular technology site’s functionality.
Like Digg, RealEstateVoices lets users choose the site’s content by submitting and ranking article submissions. The most popular stories show up on the home page and articles get promoted based on the number of votes they receive. In addition to following the link to the original source, you can post a comment on any of the stories or even flag it as inappropriate.
From the home page you can also check out and vote on breaking stories, which are the most recently submitted articles that have just entered the queue. RSS feeds are available for both breaking and popular stories, so you can keep on top of the information flow from the comfort of your newsreader if you choose.
Myself, Mike Simonsen from Altos Research and Rob Melton from Pittsburgh Homes Daily were tapped by Niki to act as Community leaders in order to seed the site with content.
Blog owners, RealEstateVoices will make a great platform for you to get some wider visibility and critiques of your writing. News junkies, it will give you a perfect outlet for your interesting tidbits or finds. Like any good social platform, this site’s success will depend on the community that develops around it. So I would encourage everyone to go give a try. Submit a story, vote or comment on any of the articles that already exist. Let’s see what happens.

Do you suppose I could sue them or something. I am listed in the data base under the wrong real estate company and it looks like I am no longer selling real estate. The names of a few of my competitors are also listed and they are selling real estate. Gee do companies stay up all night and fiugre out how to ruin small business owners or what? I wrote and asked them to take me out of their data base.

On the surface homethinking looks like a good idea. I looked myself up and it appears that I am associated with the wrong broker and have the wrong phone number. The record also indicates that I am not doing any business which is interesting since I have 4 active listings. my competitors also come up and their records are acurate. If any one uses this it could cost me business. I am wondering if I can sue these people for liable or something.

Teresa,
Were able to contact the people from Homethinking and get things straightened out? I wonder if this is a common problem that other agents experience also?

This is a very common problem and the data on homethinking is very unreliable. I have an associate who is also considering taking legal action against their site.

Do you have any thoughts on the matter, Joel? You’re in contact with the site’s owner – have you mentioned the issue of accurate information to him?
