Real Living’s Take on Zillow

Midwest-based broker, Real Living has announced that it has integrated Zillow.com data and valuations on its web site. No news here you say. Loads of companies have incorporated Zillow API, right?

Well think again. Check out how they’ve put them to use. I think it’s excellent.

I love how they’ve successfully tapped into the whole controversy around the accuracy of Zillow’s data, used it as a teaser and then successfully paired it with a call to action, in order to capture the lead.

Brilliant.

Am I missing something? How is this not a sleazy abuse of the API?

Well - Zillow has said all along that it’s Zestimates are just a starting point. So I’m thinking RealLiving is just playing off that…

I think it remains to be seen how Zillow interprets RL’s use of their data.

Nevertheless, I think it’s very clever.

Joel, thanks for the link. That is for sure an agent I’ll use as an example on how to integrate new concepts.

Or as Burke Smith of Prudential California Realty put it “Technology won’t replace agents. Agents with technology will replace agents.”

Absolutely the perfect marketing move. Differentiating yourself from your competition or how to shoot your competitor using his bullets.
More of this is sure to come.
Machine is no match for man when it comes to real estate.

    Unintented consequences:
Did you see the Seattle PI story on the possibility of tax assessors trolling zillow to find owners who have added/corrected data to jump their home value so as to thank them with a higher tax bill. David G of Zillow dodged this one.

i don’t get it. other than showing zillow with some question marks, i don’t see them using the zillow api at all… this is just a dumb map with zillow’s logo.
