Real Estate Video Shoot Out

Real estate video is definitely a big trend this year. Producing and directing a great real estate video is a subject best covered in a another post - but if you already have a video you want to show, the big question is where to host it?

I’ve suggested a few options in the past (see Video Hosting Alternatives to Youtube) but I thought, instead of writing about them, I’d show you instead.

You keep forgetting about us now with almost 300,000 total real estate video views and averaging more than 60,000-70,000 video views for real estate videos per month. How many other sites are even close to that? We along with our visitors are 100% focused on real estate.

    English: http://vidlisting.com
    Spanish: http://bienesraicesvideo.com
    Portuguese: http://imoveisvideo.com

We’re also within days of announcing an exclusive agreement with a real estate association that will make our videos available to REALTORS throughout the US.

Tony - I haven’t forgotten you. I don’t see an easy way for people to upload and share their videos on your site. The point of this post was to highlight services that allow you to take your listing and post it anywhere you want; whether that be a blog, MySpace profile or agent web site.

Here’s something I HIGHLY recommend. I actually use all of the above. I started doing this after I found http://tracker.vidmeter.com/. This lets me track all the videos across multiple video sharing sites (35 so far). It gives me an idea of which sites give my videos the most exposure. Seems as if Revver is one of the best for exposure.

  4. Tony | May 9, 2007 | Reply

shaun: we agree that exposure is a more important element than just the front end. The numbers for video views of property videos on YouTube arent too hard to figure out and they are surprising atrocious (http://activerain.com/blogsview/92074/YouTube-Is-Not-A).

We found that real estate property videos in their second week on YouTube have a average of only 16 video views and a statistical mean of a paltry 8 video views. The significantly lower mean is evidence that a few videos with over 100 hits are propping up the average of the rest.

This is a great post. We have been using a built in FLV player and its quite a hastle…with these great services such as WellcomeMat, it is truly a no-brainer to use these tools to push video around the web.

  6. Anthony Longo | May 9, 2007 | Reply

Hey Joel thx for another great post. We have been using an internal FLV file for the past year…what a pain! These great tools are awesome and we are migrating over to start to use them. Companies like WellcomeMat are really helping us push the video around the web!

Joesl, I’ve been wanting to do an extensive review of all the video service like this, but just didn’t have the nerve to go through ALL THAT WORK… Cripes man! That’s an impressive collection of registrations, uploads and testing.

Good job, and thanks for saving the rest of us the hassle.

    Hi Joel-

I’m curious to know what was your criteria in selecting video publishing solutions to test? Our product is in beta but offers a simple way for businesses to publish any combination of video and photos (not just one file) easily on their web site and blog AND centrally control changes to the content they have publsihed on the fly from their desktop. Our product is really hassle free, fast and offers tremendous flexibilty.

    Thanks.

I have to admit to only using WellcomeMat so far. Their interface is very easy to use and they have the tools in place to embed your videos many different places. They are adding upgrades at a pretty fast clip as well.

Does anyone who has used WellcomeMat along with any of the other services have an opinion on how they compare?

“The point of this post was to highlight services that allow you to take your listing and post it anywhere you want”

We believe that the point of a real estate video service is to maximize exposure in order to sell properties…I think the world of you as a writer and real estate blogger but I’m not sure that determining who has the prettiest gun in a “shootout” really proves the point.

  11. Joel Burslem | May 9, 2007 | Reply

@Tony - You’re right. The point is “to maximize exposure in order to sell properties” - I’d argue that the best way to maximize exposure is to have your videos in as many places as possible (Realtor.com, your blog, your broker site, your MySpace/Facebook profile, etc. etc.) - rather than to rely on a single point of distribution. All of these solutions allow you to do that.

Here’s what you can expect from posting a home video to many sites. This info is from the site I mentioned earlier: http://tracker.vidmeter.com/

These are the results from 12 sites:

    Yahoo Video 332
    Vimeo 288
    Zippy Videos 175
    Clip Shack 166
    Sumo.tv 161

    AOL Uncut 45
    Live Video 21
    Grouper 16
    Viddler 4
    Google Video 2

These are the total views for each site since April 19th. I update my client with this info each week. Writing this post made me realize I didn’t submit this video to all 35 sites (not all of them will approve the video). It takes awhile to upload the video to each site, but clearly it gives a ton of exposure. FYI…Here’s a link to the video on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pm7HY0WKoAQ

As you might be able to tell, I’m very passionate about using videos for all my listings, and I’m sure there are others like me out there. I hope this helps a few of you.

Forgot to add - I LOVE WellcomeMat, but sadly, they are not one of the sites that can be used in vidmeter. Hopefully they will contact vidmeter about becoming part of the approved video sites.

Done deal Shaun. We’ll see what we can do and think that we can give the other sites listed a run for their money on views, especially when the full plan of the site is realized. Thanks for the heads up on this tracking tool: very cool!

Cool Christian…been waiting and hoping you guys would join in the fun! Time to start uploading.

What a nutty blog… sickly outstanding! Just a few knee jerks:

@Joel… thanks for the ‘forem’ exposure. I like the way you work it.
@Tony… if you build it they will come (yeah, it is so punk, but it’s true).
@Sterner… you know I dig it.
    @Da rest… (Joel, forgive me… a little production talk):

If you can find one, hire a video pro, we can at least get you from countdown to black without a click, and, I can only speak for myself this time… most will negotiate a rate.

Great tip, Shaun! We cross paths again. It’s a small world in real estate 2.0 land. I was just uploading a video to several sites tonight and your input on vidmeter is great. I’ll test it out tomorrow….

Hey Jay, good to see you again lol. Another neat thing about vidmeter is that it emails you a summary of your views for the day. I hope everyone here understands I have nothing to do with the site…just enjoy its simplicity and usefulness.

Joel, Good work on this post. Like Erik said, thanks for saving us all the time and hassle of figuring this stuff out. The winner in all this will be Wellcome Mat…at least for the RE side of things. Their “chaptering” functionality is what every user and agent wants with real estate videos. Keep it up Christian!

  20. Lucas Lechuga | May 27, 2007 | Reply

I love the vidmeter site. Thanks for mentioning it Shaun. Now there just needs to be a start-up who creates a service which will allow a user to upload a video to multiple sites at once. It is so time consuming to upload a video even to just five sites. Exposure is the name of the game. Video quality is most important to me and WellcomeMat seems to be leading the way. Brightcove has good quality as well.

Hey you all forgot to mention http://www.imoondo.com! iMoondo video classifieds is almost finished testing in Boston and is poised to go national within a month. We offer free viewing/uploading for a full spectrum of video classifieds, including a Real Estate section. Anyone will be able to have their real estate videos hosted on our site.

This is a great way to illustrate the differences between the video hosting firms, and I’m glad to see Youtube not taking centre stage for once. Great though it is, of course
