Real Estate 2.0 Requests

by vonvonvon

I’m going to echo 1000Watt’s Cease and Desist post:

  • No more URL’s that start with the letter Z, have the words “real” “home” or “agent” or a color followed by a noun. I’d like to see words like “splotch” “pyaemia” and “patooties” make their way into the URL vernacular.
  • No more logos featuring a house, roof line, or globe connected to a thought bubble.
  • No more sites trying to connect people who don’t even want to be connected to each other in real life. I’d rather see a site that helps me avoid people at this point.
  • No more sites that allow agents to post information about their neighborhoods. What we need perhaps are more online tutorials on how to write.
  • No more “find a Realtor” sites. Do we really need help in this area?
  • No more business plans that rely exclusively on ad revenue.

I’d add a few more to the list too.

  • No more use of pale blue in real estate 2.0 web site palettes.
  • No more arguing over which is better, video or slideshows. Just pick one and do it.
  • No more kvetching about or dumb legislation trying to block the use of the Internet in real estate. It’s clear. It’s here. Get used to it.
  • No more Microsoft Publisher. Leave design and marketing to the pros.
  • No more petty blog feuds. Can’t we all just get along?
  • No more bashing the bubble bloggers. I think they’ve made their point.

Got any more to add to the list?

I almost went with UrFavoriteRealtorGuy@AOL.com. Instead I wised up and went with UrFavoriteRealtorGuy@Yahoo.com.

I say no more sites where it takes 10 minutes and 20 clicks to find a few properties that actually meet your search criteria.

You made a good point when you wrote: “No more arguing over which is better, video or slideshows. Just pick one and do it.”

We tend to spend so much time on irrelevant issues, nicely said.

No more leaving comments on blogs just for the hell of it, or in the hope of getting a backlink, or comment in return – or just as an excuse to leave the name of your own blog (www.CondoMetropolis.com) in the text.

No more desperate realtors spamming craigslist by advertising other listing agent’s or builders listings so that people come to them for the info. This violates CL policies and the policy of NVAR — northern virginia association of realtors. The latest perpetrator in my market is HomeZill making a mockery of the Remax brand. Unbelievable.

No more posts about what the few insightful members of this industry should stop doing!

I’d rather read a post about the highlights of these new companies, and what we can do to improve upon them.

    Joel,

There seems to be a problem with your link love page. No sites are being displayed.

No more blogs about blogs, blog posts about blog posts, or websites about websites. Maybe we are ready for a blog, all about blogs that are about blogs.

    Whatever happended to “).(”?
(In case you’re wondering what “).(” is, it means “belly to belly.”)

Too many of us are relying on websites for business.

No more “free information” on the website, either. Compel clients to call you for the free information. How? Market on WIFM.
(In case you’re wondering what “WIFM” is, it means “What’s In it For Me?” from the client’s perspective.)

    No more drip e-mail.
No more e-mail for that matter.
    Or worthless newsletters.

    Instead, write a letter.
Better yet, pick up the phone.
Even better, GOYA and go see your clients.
(In case you’re wondering what GOYA is, it means “Get Off Your Ass!”)

    How about these apples.
No more duplicating your marketing materials in the form of the same exact thing and making it seem like you offering the new greatest thing under the sun.
    Example:
A local realtor on Hilton Head Island, SC, NO NAMING NAMES HERE, has created individual websites for all of his listings. He totes this as the most advanced thing to hit the streets.
The issue I have with this is that it is essentially taking information that is already available through multiple forms of media and recreating it in the form of a website. Why?
Why go through all of this extra trouble?
It makes absolutely no sense to me.

Thanks for leaving UrFavoriteRealtorGuy@aol.com. I need to hurry and grab that one. This will work into my marketing program.

    Nice!

How about, instead of figuring out how to capture people, how to help people do what they want to do.
It’s now to the point, where I’m reluctant to put in my email and password into another site because I’m starting some kind of “relationship” with that site that doesn’t really fulfill my needs.
It’s not about “capture”. It’s about “service” md

I don’t mind Publisher so much, but it’s a real pain to work with on the press end of things – it really can muck things up.
