Realtor.com just went mobile on Windows Mobile devices.
Too bad I just switched to an iPhone.

Funny that the iPhone doesn’t work with Realtor.com’s new mobile service. Here in Hawaii, Apple computers don’t work with the local MLS website.

The Realtor.Com application was written for the Windows Moblile platform. The iPhone runs on the Macintosh OSX system with a full web browser. You do not need to download anything to an iPhone to search Realtor.Com. I just visited the Realtor.Com website and was able to navigate it without any issue at all, making it much more enjoyable experience than going through the trouble of downloading and installing software (especially beta software)
One of the best features of the iPhone, is that all of the apps that are being written for the phone will work directly through the web browser.
I’m not aware of any MLS that does not work on a Mac either. That’s usually a myth. Which MLS vendor serves Hawaii? (By the way, all new Macs have the ability to run Windows as well, so it’s really kind of moot point anyhow)
Joel, do you actually regret getting an iPhone instead of a Windows PDA?

I am doing some research for the Iphone before I switch. As far I as I know internet service runs the same with any platform. The iPhone stands out in terms of user interface, but I can’t say it’s 100% a winner.

To whom it may concern: Both the latest versions of Safari and Fox will NOT be allowed to work in most (all in my experience) MLS sites.
I’m from San Diego, and work in many states. I’ve given up trying to work in Phoenix and Boise MLS sites through Mac using any browser whatsoever. This has been true for a couple years or so.
I just retested this based on Price’s comment and nothing has changed. I can access my local MLS, but cannot successfully get it to search.
I suspect this will also render the iPhone useless to Realtors.
Any info on the iPhone’s ability to access local MLS would be greatly appreciated.
For those who would like to test for themselves, please do.
Sandicor runs the San Diego MLS.
Thanks for any info guys.

I know that MarketLinx Tempo is the most widely used platform for MLS vendors, Safari works with no issue there. I haven’t tested Paragon, Which, as far as I know, is the 2nd most used platform, I can only assume that since they are a larger provider that their development staff has no problem building up-to-date code.
According to Greg Swann, Safari works in Phoenix http://www.bloodhoundrealty.com/BloodhoundBlog/?p=1525
Im sure there are plenty of small to mid size markets that have older web 1.0 systems in place, I’ve seen some sites that won’t even work with Vista, or the latest versions of IE 7. In most cases it’s not the limitation of the technology, it’s the limitations of the technologists. Were I a broker or agent in any of those markets, I could still use the iPhone to my advantage as a business tool. As my business partner alway says, “It’s not what you have that matters, it’s what you do with it.”

@Mike - Oh no. That comment was written firmly tongue-in-cheek. You’ll have to pry my iPhone from my cold, dead hands.

Jeff, here’s a good article from Mike Antoniak at Realtor Magazine that just came out about the issue of using Macs for Real Estate

Joel,
I assumed as much! Glad you’re enjoying the phone.
