Just released the myAgent iPhone app at NAR in San Diego. Realtors already pay for access to an IDX website, so IDX mobile apps should be free (or at least included) w/an IDX service.

Mobile search apps should also provide a way to engage buyers by way of people who download the app and “find” the Agent’s site.

It’s always about LOCAL positioning.

I use my iphone with my local MLS – go to your local MLS page, click on Help, click on PDA Interface and bingo. Works like a dream.

We host websites and listings for realtors in US and Canada and the iphone / android application is a natural extension of our listing product offering. The iphone app is geolocation aware and is able to provide our realtors’ visitors with geo-aware searches, can “follow” you as you walk or drive and let you use your Virtual Office Website (VOW) account. Full listing details and photos are available, as well as direct calling and texting from listing details.

My wife is a Real Estate agent and uses the iPhone for almost everything except for accessing our MLS system. our local association of realtors uses MLXCHANGE which was built using IE and MS Windows specific ActiveX controls. Nevertheless, GTE provides us with MLS data on Palm or windows mobile os only. Two things must happen before the iPhone becomes a productive tool for real estate professionals.

1. Apple should allow third-party applications for easier integration with MLS systems

2. MLS systems should dump browser specific codes and use modern html/dhtml languages and provide universal browser support.

Otherwise, the iPhone is really the best phone I’ve ever used.
