Internet Marketing for Real Estate Developers

From ClickZ, Real Estate Developers Need Web Marketing Strategy:

Perhaps because of the tricky mix of objectives, or because development projects typically take longer to create and sell than single-family homes, developers are even further behind on Web marketing. They’re uncertain whether to build slick, glossy sites with clever tools, or build functional sites and dedicate more dollars to online advertising and marketing. Many are certainly considering search marketing, but few seem to understand search engine optimization takes time, perhaps longer even than the life of the project.

I have noticed that builders have some of the best looking but worst web sites. they have slide shows and play music but the buyer can never find a price and it is often difficult to find contact information. I have sent emial through these sites only to be added to a drip campaign and have never gotten an answer to a question. Hard to beleive but they may actually be worse than real estate web sites.

I agree with Teresa. Here in Hawaii, developer’s sites look great, but aren’t always that functional. It could be because they’re selling the idea of their development and so they try and show the beauty of their project through their website, forgetting about the fact that the website actually needs to work.

I think that a developers website doesn’t need all the slick tech stuff. It just needs to be useable and found. As Joel mentions, getting into the search engines takes time. Developers should take this into account and start an SEO program for their website before they ever break ground on the project.
