Estately Schools the Competition

Estately, Real Estate 2.0’s best search interface, keeps getting better and better.

Recently, it added comprehensive school information for all schools in Washington State (Estately only serves Washington at the moment, as it pulls its listings from a broker relationship with the NWMLS). Now you can review city-wide rankings of all the best and worst schools in any neighborhood (e.g. Ballard). Once you’ve narrowed down the school you are interested in sending your kids to, you can quickly pull up all the listings within 1, 2 or 5 miles of the institution.

When you click on a individual property listing, Estately reveals neighborhood data — pulled from an expanded relationship with 43 Places — that in addition to schools, gives you nearby parks and places of interest.

This is smart. Real smart. Estately continues to show its trailblazing spirit by keeping its focus on users strong and adding features that consumers will respond to. Plus it just works. Smoothly, quickly and intuitively.
Even more remarkable given the size of the team that built it, which as far as I know, can be counted on one hand. Who says you need millions of dollars of venture capital to build a truly kick-ass real estate search site?
Estately hopes to make money through its Agent Match service (see Shackprices Sheds the Shack) and it’s too early to see if that will be a sustainable long term model for the site. But seriously. Somebody should buy these guys - either one of the big brands or a local broker.
I’d love to see their technology and design acumen spread - a site this good shouldn’t be confined only to the Northwest.

That’s great for the state but it is so tough to scale real estate search if not in bed with NAR like Realtor.com. Plus, getting school info for all states will be easy. I do hope they succeed and get the chance to expand.

We’ve been doing this for about a year now down in South Florida. We get a descent amount of traffic from Google alone by people looking for a school and then finding the nearby communities.

Estately is still one of my favorite RE apps. They’re smooth, smart and more detailed than others.
