Cellsigns Launches iPhone Video Tours
Geeks love their iPhones. And I tell you what… as soon as I finish writing about a new iPhone application in real estate (see Terabitz Creates MLS iPhone Site), another one lands on my doorstep.
Not that that’s a bad thing.
This time, it’s from Cellsigns - the SMS marketing company. They’ve launched a new product where you can text in to a number (say, on a for sale sign) and receive the video tour of that property on your iphone.
If you have an iPhone, you can see how it works by texting the numbers on the following video
Text VID555 to 79274 and you’ll receive a SMS message with the property information and a link that opens the video up in the iPhone’s built in Youtube player. Pretty slick.
Unfortunately, like other Youtube videos, the experience is crippled by the iPhone’s EDGE connection and unless you’re in a WiFi hotspot the playback is hardly bearable.
Nevertheless, a very cool innovation and one that will surely get better with the arrival of the much demanded 3G iPhone.

Gotta say, I was a little dissapointed when I tested this out and received an SMS back with a link to a youtube video(among other things). I was expecting something a little more sexy. But I guess until someone figures out how to push a website automatically through SMS, that’s about all I’m going to get.
It’s a start though, and I’m glad to see this stuff catching on for the iPhone.

All these great apps are coming out for the iPhone. Once the 3G comes out, what is this going to mean for Research in Motion and their flagship Blackberry?

I agree with TitleRep. I tried it out and at the end I was just like “That’s it?”. I guess if you are going to make your claim to fame as an SMS marketing company using a red hot product like the iPhone the expectation to wow everyone is a bit higher.
I hope they can do better once the application store is up.

The problem with the iPhone that some may or may not realize is that it doesn’t support MMS content which prohibits a push. The other challenge with it is the speed at which the iPhone or any phone is capable of streaming or even downloading video cotent. The application is really more limited by the carrier and device than the software running it.
To your comment Joshua, if you pulled up to property as a home shopper and a video of that home started playing on your phone…you would be extremely impressed with the service and the listing agent that provided that service for their seller.
