Apple Releases SDK Kit for iPhone

Real estate developers, get ready.
Direct from Steve in Apple - Hot News
Let me just say it: We want native third party applications on the iPhone, and we plan to have an SDK in developers’ hands in February. We are excited about creating a vibrant third party developer community around the iPhone and enabling hundreds of new applications for our users. With our revolutionary multi-touch interface, powerful hardware and advanced software architecture, we believe we have created the best mobile platform ever for developers.
There you have it. A software development kit for the iPhone and iPod Touch by Valentine’s Day next year.
The iPhone multi-touch interface is undoubtably one of the coolest features I’ve seen on any device for a long time and it’s a natural for manipulating real estate data.
So what could this hold for mobile real estate? The prospects are tantalizing…Zillow Zestimates on your iPhone? Trulia real estate search that syncs to a desktop widget?

Sweet! I have seen some of the apps that hackers have added to the iPhone and they are amazing.

Now all Apple has to do is get real and legitimately (without the help of hacks) expand beyond Cingular/AT&T. Speaking of which, has anyone been keeping up to date with Google’s Mobile intitiatives? The operator strongholds (ie…you can only use this phone on this network or that network) just might be broken. I am having a hard time remembering where I read what….but the short story was that the Google handset is a developers dream and bypasses all the major operators (that is…if they want to).

Christian, that’s going to be tough - the Google phone would need to be wifi or have a bunch of different antennae in it to operate on different networks. My understanding from the rumors is that they’re just building the operating system (or modifying Linux) and others will build the hardware.

Actually Galen, the mobile platform does run on wifi. And, Google acquired some smaller company with a large amount of IP all surrounding mobile handsets dialing into a VOIP network. I have no reason to doubt that I was reading some idealistic, Google-loving blog post somewhere, but-regardless-it was thought provoking. One has to believe that hardwire, proprietary networks are bound to get juked.

whats a sdk. you should explain if you want anyone to read this. - and as an agent our mls only works w ie6+ so the iphone is useless. other pda/smart phones can be used as a lockbox key too so iphone is not viable for me. and i really want it to be! i have ibook and ipod but must use terminal emulator w winders to access mls and my companies platform.

Forgive me if this is old news, but HouseFront has already come out with a widget for the iPhone that allows you to search properties for estimates of value and other info. Here’s the link: http://blog.housefront.com/?p=235
