New Local Market Explorer plugin for Wordpress
Great news for those of you who are building your web sites in Wordpress. Zillow has announced the release of the new Local Market Explorer WP Plugin.
The LME plugin, which was built by Jonathan Mabe and Andrew Mattie, developers with Diverse Solutions, automatically creates rich pages on your blog that incorporate data from Zillow, Education.com, Flickr, Walk Score and Yelp.
Zillow has set up some test pages here:
You can download the plugin immediately from WordPress plugin directory.
A couple of key notes; you’ll need separate API keys for each of the data sources but you can turn on or off which sources you want to incorporate. Also, the plugin does not let create hyperlocal pages (at either a neighborhood or ZIP code level) so you must keep all of your pages at the city level, for now.
Zillow promises future versions that will address these issues. But regardless, this is an instant, dead simple way to instantly create compelling content that your web visitors are looking for. Organized correctly, you could create a powerfully relevant local resource.

Nice plug ins, thanks for sharing that. Word press is really typical for Real Estate and it’s good to know that there are useful plug ins.

I also saw this on zillow. Some of this data is very easy to come by though through local government offices. I hired a programmer to work on some data integration stuff. It’s not as difficult as it sounds to do on your own.

Looks like an installable linkfest for Zillow.

I would caution against checking your filters on what is coming in through with these sources. I saw some nudes coming in on one of the Flickr plugins.

I think it’s a great start. Those local pages will be key. The city level is pretty rough when your market is a large city. But this is another example of why Wordpress is the best platform for a real estate site.

While I love the mashup concept I always was concerned of not controlling what comes up on my site. Just as I thought I need to open up to the concept…. I click on the LA link and what do you know, one of the pictures from flickr was a naked lady.

When you get more blogs that have examples of this let me know. I’m not interested in marketing Zillow or any other company for that matter on my site, but I am interested in providing clients with rich data.
Thanks.

The internet is changing the game of marketing real estate. Each client, both buyer and seller, will want as many resources and tools that are available to get the best deal.

I believe they have rolled out phase two which allows for deeper integration and searching based on zip codes, this could add some true value to a number of realestate directories that are lacking substance in the market.

I blog on WP and I too am concerned about letting go of content control. It’s a great tool but the gamble seems awfully risque — I mean risky.
