Get Your .Me Domain Today
Open registration for .Me domains starts to today. The domains, which were previously reserved for entities based in the country of Montenegro, are now available for anyone to purchase.
(Amusingly, .Me was assigned to Montenegro after is declared independence from the former Serbia and Montenegro which used the TLD .Yu… so .Me split from .Yu)
Uses for a .Me domain?
Realtors using their own names as their main branding element would be wise to snag that URL. Using joerealtor.me might be a unique marketing angle (…for a short while anyway) but in any case, it would be good to stake your claim on it, even if you don’t end up using it.
Also, if you’re planning on using Apple’s MobileMe push contact and calendaring service with your hot new 3G iphone – you can assign your .Me URL to your MobileMe account (by adding it as your personal domain under the account settings). Update: MobileMe won’t let you use a .Me domain as your personal domain, hopefully this is just temporary.
Anyway, I snagged burslem.me – if you want to as well, go get ‘em.

Hi,
I am a realtor in Vancouver Canada and my concern would be that potential clients would not think that such a url would be associated with a different country at best and rank narcissism at worst?

Joel – I totally agree. For those agents who leverage the personal brand marketing angle, they may want to consider buying their .me extension.
In preparation for the Inman Conference, I purchased a .me URL for those who might want to add me as a Twitter friend. The URLI purchased is YouCanFollow.me.
BTW- it was great meeting you at Inman Connect!

This post is old, but I just find it…here below my 2 cents:
An other option for real estate professionals is to get generic domain names ending with “.RE”, many are still available. Generic domains are SEO Gold.
Never mind the fact .RE is “la Reunion” country domain if your website under an .RE domain names is hosted in US than google and other search engines will love your website very same as a generic dot-com domain.
Same way as .TV is “Tuvalu” country they branded for entrainment. I think .RE have big potential for the real estate sector.
